History of Bring-A-Book:
Bring-A-Book was first launched in 2000 in Kenya by former GLOBIO Boardmember Marcia Gordon as a way to get books into the hands of children in developing countries as quickly and economically as possible. She felt that there was a small window of opportunity to “hook” kids on reading before television took over. As the owner of a large tour company it occurred to her that her many of her clients would love to have the pleasure of personally delivering books to schools; travelers could be the perfect vehicle for getting books into the hands of children. Many visitors wanted to help the schools financially, so a foundation was created to ensure the books and money reached the schools and continues to be used wisely.
How we do what we do:
BAB is one of many educational projects we are invested in at GLOBIO. While most of our effort is online, reaching 78,000 kids a month with resources like Glossopedia®, the only free, safe, kid-friendly online encyclopedia in the world, Bring-A-Book reaches the many children who have no online access.
GLOBIO coordinates the buying of books in bulk and at a reduced price. Books are then delivered to schools on your behalf. These efforts expand a classroom’s library, or in many cases, create a library of basic textbooks and books. Our goal is not only to increase literacy but to plant seeds of stewardship for local environments. This, in turn, creates a new generation of earth-conscious global citizens. Because of this, many of our recommended books are nature and science based. The Bring-A-Book project is run with minimal overhead, volunteer help and from donations from people like you. Support the Bring-A-Book project through GLOBIO by donating now.

Support from the Classic Escapes Conservation Fund:
Ensuring the growth and success of Bring-A-Book, GLOBIO is grateful for the generous support from the Classic Escapes Conservation Fund. Through their direct donations, as well as purchase and delivery of books, travelers with Classic Escapes support travel as a tool for increasing literacy. Working together, we are building mutual respect, awareness, and understanding, all of which are vital to preserving this planet for future generations.
